The Military Dept. was created in 1921 (Ch. 8502, Laws), it was directed by the Adjutant General, and its headquarters were in St. Augustine. The Florida National Guard was established in 1909 (Ch. 5930, Laws) replacing the Florida State Troops. From 1921 until 1973, the Guard was placed under the Military Dept (Ch. 8502, Laws).
